International Development Tournament

The International Development Tournament is more than just a tournament.  

This unique program has been designed by our full time hockey staff, which combined have played over 70 years in the NHL. The program is designed to challenge dedicated elite players to further develop their hockey skills and knowledge through an extensive 2- week process. The program focuses on individual and team play with professionally coached ice sessions, competitive international tournament games, off-ice hockey specific workouts, off-ice skills work at the skill center, hockey related lectures and seminars.

Teams and players from several countries attend the IDT including Canada, Russia, United States, Germany, Switzerland, Korea, China, Sweden, Finland, Great Britain, Mexico, Japan, and the United Arab Emirates.  

The program is designed for elite players as described by the following birth years;

2008 IDT TOURNAMENT DATES & ELIGIBILITY

IDT#1   June 29 - July 11, players born in 1991, 1992 and 1993.

IDT#2   July 13 - July 25, players born in 1994 and 1995.

IDT#3   July 27 -  August 8, players born in  1996 and 1997.

IDT#4   August 10 - August 22, players born in 1993, 1994 and 1995.

IDT FORMAT

• 10 individual team practices
• 10 international tournament games including playoffs
• 10 teams of international players
• Awards banquet and luncheon for individual and team recognition 

IDT SKILLS COMPETITION

This is an NHL style competition that allows for players to compare how they rank against all players in the tournament. It also allows for players to see how they against players in there own age group. The following skills are tested:  

Hardest shot

1. wrist
2. backhand
3. slap shot
4. snapshot

Most accurate shot
Fastest skater

1. 30 feet
2. 100 feet
3. 250 feet
4. full lap

PLAYER DEVELOPMENT

• Power skating
• Stick handling and puck control
• Shooting techniques that include speed and accuracy training
• Body checking techniques on giving and taking

INDIVIDUAL TACTICS

• Speed and skill transition
• Dekes and fakes
• Puck protection
• Face offs
• Delays
• One timers
• Gap control

TEAMS SKILLS

• Game Video Analysis of the first 9 games
• Offensive strategies
• Defensive strategies
• Power Play strategies
• Penalty kill strategies

OFF-ICE TRAINING

• Hockey specific explosive leg and core strengthening and conditioning
• Goal setting seminars
• Nutritional seminars
• Motivational seminars
• Hockey specific DVD lectures
• Game video analysis
• Individual video analysis on skating and shooting
• Skills training at the skill center
• Individual meeting with the head coach
• Individual report card evaluation from the head coach

GOALTENDERS

• Goaltenders receive 10 extra goaltender specific ice times
• Goaltenders receive goaltender specific instruction and materials as listed above

APPLICATION FEE

The 2008 application fee for the 2-week International Development Tournament all inclusive is $1,850 for players and $2,150 for goaltenders.
