Dorm Counsellors

Mature MALE * students at least 19 years old, with a background in hockey and experience working with youth 5-17 years. (*Must stay overnight in the male dorm rooms)

Overview

• Live in dorm with students and co-counsellors
• Guide students through on and off ice activities
• Responsible for safety and well being of students in your charge
• Model positive and appropriate behaviour to students and other OHS staff

Responsibilities

• Lead students through daily schedule including on and off ice activities
• Supervise students at all times during your shift including meals and free time
• Assist students to negotiate peaceful and beneficial solutions to conflict
• Carry out all of the Policies and Procedures as set forth by OHS

Skills / Abilities

• Friendly, upbeat, caring positive attitude
• Adaptable in a busy youth oriented environment
• Hockey experience / Assist on the ice with the students
• Leadership / Team Building / Problem Solving / Conflict Resolution
• Creative approach to solutions

Team Leader

Mature post secondary MALE students at least 21 years old, with 2 years of Counselling / Camp experience, a background in staff supervision and hockey.

Overview

• Responsible for the direct leadership, supervision and support to Counselling Staff
• Model positive and appropriate behaviour to students and other OHS staff
• Report directly to the Dorm Manager

Responsibilities

• Build strong relationships with and supervise the Counselling Staff on your team
• Ensure all policies and procedures are adhered to and proper documentation is being followed
• Participate in disciplinary hearings when required
• Manage Dorm Office in absence of Dorm Manager
• Assist parents with requests or information as needed
• Transport students in need of assistance to medi-centre, hospital, or airport
• Valid driver’s license (Class 4 preferred)

These positions are both very rewarding and demanding and applicants must enjoy spending long periods of time with youth, and living in a camp setting. Candidates must be able to commit to the entire summer, pass a Criminal Record Check and the organization screening process.

Hockey Instructor Positions Available

Okanagan Hockey School in Penticton & Kelowna, BC have instructor positions available during July and August 2010. Successful candidates will have previous coaching and/or instructing experience. Playing hockey at Junior A level or higher will be a definite asset. Ability to communicate with young players, teaching experience, and strong leadership qualities will ensure your success at these positions.

The following Instructor positions are available:

1. On-ice Instructor –Ability to demonstrate and teach fundamental hockey skills such as skating, shooting, puck handling to regular and elite level players from 8 to 16 years of age.
   
   
2. Goaltending Instructor - Ability to demonstrate and teach basic and advanced goaltending skills to players between the ages of 8 to 16 years of age. Knowledge of modern goaltender styles and techniques necessary.

Instructors & Counsellors Position Available in Austria

Okanagan Hockey School seeks qualified instructors and counsellors for our Summer Hockey Schools in St. Polten, Austria. The camps run from July 25th, 2010 to August 14th, 2010. All instructors and counsellors wages and expenses will be negotiated individually.
