Camp Features

SKILLS CENTER
Players will work on shooting and puck control in our one of a kind Skills Center. Each Student receives quality instruction on shot technique, accuracy and shot selection as they go through the many stations of the Skills Center. Players shoot on our Synthetic Ice surface which allows shooting in a game like situations and scenarios.

OFF-ICE CONDITIONING
Players will increase strength through our dynamic off-ice power plyometric and core strength training program. This hockey specific program is aimed to provide knowledge and basic understanding of the importance of conditioning. Drills are designed specifically to assist young hockey players that want to improve their strengths and weaknesses to help their performance on-ice. Program varies with different age levels.

Different areas are covered each day, focusing on:

  • leg strength
  • core stability
  • core strength
  • foot speed and agility
  • upper body power
  • hand eye coordination & concentration

LECTURE SESSIONS
All students will participate in one classroom session per day dealing with the skills taught that day on the ice. All sessions are supplemented with DVDs, slides, films, overhead projections and question sheets.

CONFERENCES
All regular and elite players ages 8 – 16 yrs will receive a personal conference with one instructor. The instructor will also test the player on a number of on-ice skills and prepare a comprehensive report card.

SEMINARS
All regular players aged 13-16 years, and all elite players registered in the elite training programs 11-16, will attend a series of seminars dealing with contemporary hockey concepts. Such topics as playing college hockey/Jr. ‘A’, professional hockey requirements, physical conditioning, nutrition and positive self image will be presented.

LEADERSHIP THROUGH A POSITIVE SELF IMAGE SEMINARS
All players will participate in Edmonton Oilers Hockey Schools “Leadership Through A Positive Self-Image” seminar program. This program focuses on developing an attitude that enables a hockey player to become responsible and accountable for their own decisions, actions and behavior on and off the ice. This unique and educational seminar program teaches players how to cope creatively with change, challenge and stress, the challenges of open and honest communication, co-operation and teamwork, enhances leadership skills, how to relax and creatively visualize, and goal setting. The concepts are taught in a seminar/discussion format by professional educators. The most important factor that influences the quality of young hockey players lives is their feelings of self-worth and their self-image. You rise or fall, succeed or fail, by the image of yourself that you hold in your own mind.

OUTSTANDING ATHLETE AWARD
All students finalize their weeks stay with an athletic competition to determine the groups top athlete. The winner will receive an engraved medallion.

AWARDS CEREMONIES
The culmination to the weeks program is our awards presentations on Saturday after each game. At this time, report cards, patches, certificates of participation, as well as sportsmanship, athletic awards and triathlon awards are presented to the students.
